In early 2024, a long-standing dream was nearing completion—Lohja-based Kimmo and Marika Syrjälä, and their dog Milo, have been building a motorhome called Matkailumersu (the ”Travelling Mercedes”) since early 2023, while carefully documenting the stages of their project along the way. Teknoware wanted to be involved in supporting this quality project by providing the couple with interior lighting solutions suitable for their motorhome. In spring 2024, as the project was entering its final stages, the motorhome was equipped with high-quality Omni spotlights and Wave flexible LED strips.
Kimmo and Marika's goal was to build a high quality and distinctive looking motorhome that would be suitable for their needs. Although DIY was a good way to achieve the desired outcome, the project has grown from the initial idea to a much larger one, and has required a lot of research, nerves of steel, and coordination of schedules. Enthusiastic about videography, the couple also documented their work from the very beginning on social media. There is clearly a demand for this kind of content because, currently, @matkailumersu has around 11,000 followers on TikTok and 10,100 followers on Instagram.
Collaboration with Teknoware also began via the web:
- Kimmo and Marika have demonstrated a good work ethic throughout and produced quality work from the beginning, so we made a proposal to cooperate on the interior lighting of the vehicle. At the same time, it gave us the opportunity to test the suitability of our products for the recreational vehicle market," says Teknoware’s Business Director, Jukka Kärkkäinen.
Teknoware knows a fair bit about lighting—producing lighting and interior solutions for the world's leading manufacturers of public transport vehicles such as buses, trains and trams, as well as emergency lighting solutions for buildings and ships. The company’s long-term aim is to expand the product offering to serve other types of vehices as well, including recreational vehicles.
Kimmo and Marika, who appreciate good workmanship, were excited by Teknoware's product brochures and quickly agreed a timetable for the cooperation. Teknoware supplied Omni spotlights and Wave flexible LED strips for use in the @matkailumersu motorhome.
- Teknoware contacted us at just the right time, as we were very close to purchasing the lighting for the project. We were very impressed with Teknoware's product range, and in particular with the product brochures, which we thought were exceptionally well done with clear illustrations and dimensional drawings. This made it easy to select the right products for our project as well," says Marika.
Some final work on the motorhome's lighting was carried out at Teknoware's factory in Lahti, which also provided the couple with the chance to have a tour of the factory.
- The schedule was quite tight, as the finishing touches were finally completed the day before we left! But now we can enjoy the results of our work and fulfil a long-standing dream on our first trip to Europe in our new motorhome," Marika added.
